SQUIRREL ALLEY RAILROAD
Ever since I was a young child I've been fascinated by trains, trolleys, and other vehicles that run on rails. Growing up in southern California I spent many wonderful weekends riding trains at the Los Angeles Live Steamers Railroad Museum in Griffith Park, climbing on the amazing collection of locomotives and rolling stock at the neighboring Travel Town Museum, browsing the aisles of Allied Model Trains (sadly - no longer in business), helping to construct my friends' layouts, and riding full-size trains whenever possible.
Despite all the trains in my life, I never had my own layout - that is, until I discovered garden railroading as an adult. The first time I saw a steam engine running through a beautifully landscaped backyard I was hooked. Ten years later I now spend a considerable amount of my free time designing and constructing my own layout and running my trains.
This hobby brings me great pleasure and an ever-expanding community of friends. It's also a creative outlet that challenges my woodworking, electrical, masonry and modeling skills on a regular basis.
